Civil Project Engineer

Contract: Outside IR35

London

Our client are looking for a Civil Project Engineer who will be responsible for managing substation civil engineering, construction, and contracting activities. This includes tendering activities alongside Sales and concluding with the hand-over to the service department or client. The role focuses on maintaining scope, cost, time, and quality to maximize returns.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Technical:

  • Perform civil and structural design checks, provide comments, and guide on civil documentation to meet contractual requirements for tenders and projects.
  • Leverage experience in working within 3D/BIM environments.
  • Possess knowledge of the UK Building Market, Standards, and Regulations.
  • Have basic knowledge of Building MEP requirements (preferred).
  • Liaise with civil designers to resolve site Technical Queries, remedial works, and snags.
  • Support the CDM coordinator / Temporary works coordinator in their duties.
  • Provide technical advice during the feasibility, design, construction, and commissioning phases for projects to direct labor force and framework contractors.

Project Management:

  • Monitor, control, and report on project progress, including costs and budget.
  • Select key personnel and subcontractors for the project.
  • Investigate and develop cost-effective design and construction solutions.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the client's Design Guidance, Standards, and Specifications.
  • Guide the remote office team for design development and project delivery.

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in developing project requirements, cost estimates, project plans, and budgets within the construction industry (preferably on large multi-million dollar projects).
  • Proficiency in civil and structural design, including the ability to check and comment on civil documentation in accordance with contractual requirements for tenders and projects.
  • Experience in contract negotiations and awarding.
  • Ability to monitor, control, and report on project progress, including costs and budget.
  • Skill in resolving disputes, negotiating change orders, and communicating decisions to clients, subcontractors, and management personnel.
  • Experience in selecting key personnel and subcontractors for projects.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Market, Standards, and Regulations.
  • Familiarity with major utilities is advantageous.
  • Experience as a Contractor Design Approval Engineer (CDAE) is a plus.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it is desirable.

Formal Education and Training Required:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering or a related construction field.
  • Membership in a recognized professional institution.
